Kawa Kawa Roasters

Specialty Coffee · Roastery

A shop for a Huye roastery that sells like a fine-goods house: dark, quiet and led by photography rather than copy.

The brief

Specialty coffee sites tend to be either playful or crowded. Kawa Kawa asks what a Rwandan roastery looks like when every page is pared back to the coffee itself.

Approach

Fewer words and bigger photographs, following the bean from cherry to drying bed to roaster to cup.

Espresso, ivory and brass, with a light serif for headlines and slow, quiet motion throughout.

What we built

  • Home and product pages with slow image reveals, line-by-line headlines and soft parallax
  • Coffee cards that zoom gently and show the price on hover
  • Size and grind selection; add to bag asks for both and keeps the count across pages
  • A product gallery and a brew guide for pour-over, French press and espresso
  • Subscription sizes that update the price per delivery
  • A phone menu, and a static version for people who turn off motion
